Unity in the Community

On Saturday we attended the ‘Unity in the Community’ event at the Riverstate Park in Spokane. Each of us volunteered at a stall and I helped to decorate Hula Hoops for children on the ‘Mentoring Children of Promise’ stall. The programme is designed to help children from the age of 4 – 18 whom had a parent or caregiver currently incarcerated in prison, or had been at some point in their lives. Mentors would share activities with the child and offer friendship and support. I found this experience interesting and it was enjoyable to chat to the children and parents who visited the stall, as well as the mentors on the programme. The event also held different cultural stalls, and I had the opportunity to watch different acts perform from diverse cultures and backgrounds. It was nice to see the community bonding at an event for everybody.

Ouaffa, Maria and I using the Hula Hoops we made!
