Teaching in America: Developing a Teaching Philosophy...

Perhaps the main aspect of my personal teaching philosophy is my belief that each student is unique and that this uniqueness should be nurtured and allowed to grow.

In my opinion, it is an educator’s vocation to encourage, support and guide the development of a child academically, socially and emotionally. My desire as a future educator is to create an encouraging and safe environment where ALL students feel comfortable in order to be able to question, take risks and raise ideas with teachers and peers.

I passionately believe that every child should have a firm understanding and tolerance of other cultures, beliefs and countries. I wish to take the time to get to know the children that I will teach in order to incorporate learning activities that use their individual interests, culture and family networks in order to promote the learning opportunities that culture can bring to the classroom. I want to be an authentic teacher, presenting children with learning activities that have real meanings to which they can relate to whilst providing the development of skills and knowledge that will assist in their continued lifelong learning.

My teaching philosophy forms part of my own identity. The beliefs and core values that are incorporated into my education philosophy come from what I believe to be important in my life. Through the process of reflection, my experiences are constantly building on these beliefs as I continue to develop and grow as an educator.
